Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. This week, we take a look at a rising American star, examine the importance of your wedges to shooting lower scores, and cast our eye over the advantages of having a golf bag suited to the wet weather. Enjoy the read. |
An all-American affair Xander Schauffele showed U.S. Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk exactly what he was missing at Le Golf National, as he pulled off a stunning play-off victory at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai. Schauffele clawed back a three-shot deficit to fellow American Tony Finau, making birdies on the final two holes to force a play-off, before making another birdie at the first sudden-death hole to win his third PGA title. Schauffele was named 'Rookie of the Year' in the 2016-17 season, and is proving his credentials once again this year, despite switching equipment manufacturers at the start of the season. If you’re also thinking of a move away from your current set of clubs, come down to the shop and we’ll get you fitted down to every last detail! Request a fitting here. |
Preferred lies Now that the clocks have gone back and we find ourselves edging towards winter, many golf courses will have introduced a Local Rule for 'Preferred Lies'. When this is in force, it allows you to mark, clean (especially important if your ball is covered in mud like in this photo) and place your ball within six inches of where it has come to rest, providing it was on a closely mown area - i.e. the fairway. If you're unsure on this or any other rule, please come and speak to a member of the pro shop team. |

New Titleist Golf Ball
Titleist recently launched a brand-new golf ball that comes into the market alongside the Pro V 1. The new ball is called the Titleist AVX which offers remarkable distance with exceptionally soft feel and a penetrating ball flight. It has been engineered to be the lowest flying, lowest spinning and softest feeling high performance golf ball in the Titleist line.
The feedback from those that have tried it has been fantastic, especially from those medium to strong hitters that wanted a lower ball flight than they were getting from their previous ball. One other difference between the Pro V and the AVX is the material of the cover. For those of you who wanted to use the Pro V 1 but didn’t because you prefer a yellow ball, which was not possible with the Pro V due to the cover material, you can now try a coloured premium ball in the form of the AVX.
The Titleist AVX is now in-store for those that want to give it a go.
For more information on the ball, or to find out which ball would help you get the most out of your game, pop in and see us.

Missed putts cost you this season?
We have come to the end of the summer golf season and for the next few months competitions will be few and far between. This gives us an opportunity to sit back and assess our performance over the year and establish what stopped us from improving our handicap or caused us to miss out on a trophy win by a shot or two. I’m sure you’ve heard the expression ‘drive for show and putt for dough’ and I’m sure a lot of you will come to the conclusion that your putting has probably let you down more than you would like to admit over the last few months.
I know I’ve been in the situation where I’ve been on the course standing over a putt thinking ‘I don’t actually like the look of this putter’, and surprise, surprise I miss the putt. Having confidence in your putter is essential! Obviously, technique has a great deal to do with any aspect of the game of golf but feeling confident standing over the shot is just as important.
If you are lacking in confidence with the flat stick, why not pop in and see if we have something that suits your eye. We currently have Cleveland putters in stock, with Odyssey and Titleist Scotty Cameron’s arriving very soon.
You may be happy with the look of your putter but still consistently miss those short ones or struggle with pace, so why not get in touch and book yourself in for a putting lesson, and at least that way you can stand over the putt with a positive mind set rather than worrying about the putt coming back!

Winter is coming, but we know that won't prevent you avid golfers getting out on the course to face biting winds, muddy shoes and, most of all, rain. Lots and lots of rain. With this in mind, it's more important than ever to have a golf bag which will keep your clubs and belongings dry during a downpour. |
Introducing Titleist's StaDry Deluxe This is where a cart bag like the StaDry Deluxe comes into play. You'll certainly be keeping your valuables dry if you opted to upgrade your golf bag to this offering over the winter thanks to Titleist’s StaDry waterproof technology, which ensures maximum coverage from the rain during your round. Weighing in at 2.9 kgs, it's also incredibly lightweight, making it easy to lift to and from the car boot to your trolley.
