Welcome to the latest edition of the weekly pro shop newsletter. The Open starts this week and we hope you are all looking forward to it and get a chance to sit and watch some of the action. Enjoy the read.

Competition news

Earlier this week Alan and I played our next round of Captain/Pro challenge matches.

Roger Keen and Chris Constantinou, both vets captain’s in recent years, were certainly up for the challenge. They played well as a team using their shots very well, with both challenging in most holes, which made it very difficult for us.

Chris and Roger ran out comfortable 3&2 winners in the end, but unfortunately that winning margin was not quite enough to knock David Corfan and Andy Forsyth off the top of the leaderboard.

Even though Alan and I were on the losing side it was a real pleasure to play with Chris and Roger for the first time, which at the end of the day is what this competition is all about. It was also good to see the improvements Chris and Roger had made to their games over the last few months having had lessons with Darren and myself. Congratulations gentlemen!

Next week sees us take on John McPoland and Bob Russell; hopefully we can hole a few putts and start to turn these results around.

Lombard Trophy Pro - Am

Gary Potton and I will be representing the club in the east region qualifying for the Lombard Trophy Pro-Am. With over 750 clubs and over 100,000 amateurs taking part you could say it is quite a big event. Gary and I will be plotting our way around Sandy Lodge Golf Club in Northwood, trying to shoot the score required to get us to the final in Portugal at the end of the year.

There is a lot of competition and only one spot available, but we will definitely be doing our best South Beds to the final.

Golf Ball Lottery

This is our first month running our golf ball lottery, where the winner at the end of the month will win 15 Titleist Pro V1 golf balls for a £1 investment.

The numbers sold out very quickly so if it is something you were thinking of getting involved in, get your £1 ready early next month.

Skechers Golf Shoes

Skechers golf shoes have proved to be a big hit for the second year running, with many calling them the most comfortable golf shoes they have ever owned.

We have limited stock left in men’s and ladies, and we are not able to get anymore until March next year, so if you’re thinking of treating yourself because you’ve heard the feedback from others, or just fancy getting yourself a second pair to get you through until the new year, get in quick as I don’t think they’ll be around for long.
