It's been a busy week competition wise, well played everyone!
The Frank Press Trophy
The Frank Press Trophy was played on Easter Monday which is a mixed foursomes Stableford event; not an ideal format on a blustery, showery day. The trophy was won by Mike Davies and Val Wing who had an impressive 31 points in very challenging conditions.
Miles Trophy Qualifying Medal
Last weekend saw the Miles Trophy qualifying medal take place. For division 1 players it was just a standard medal, but the top 16 in division 2 went on to qualify for the Miles Trophy match play event. 5 players tied for the lead in the division 1 medal; they were Kieran Horgan, Dave Philpott, Kevin Wooliscroft, Jim Gleasure and Gavin Oliver. The draw for the Miles Trophy can be found on the competitions board in the clubhouse.
Sunday Ladies Medal
The Ladies Medal took place on Sunday, with Bridie Quinn winning with a net 73.
Junior Medal
The club's juniors had a medal on Monday, with Chanel Fontaine-Geary coming out on top with a net 68, which reduces her handicap.
A big congratulations goes out to George Tebbut who had his first hole in one during the junior medal; a beautifully struck 3 wood on the 15th hole. Well done George! You'll never forget it. Not bad for an 11 year old!
Tuesday Ladies Medal
The ladies medal which took place on Tuesday was won by Katriona Close with a net 71.
Free wedge check
I assume you've all been glued to the coverage of the US Masters. Augusta is a course where controlling the direction and distance of wedges is essential.
Most amateur golfers aren't aware of the impact having the wrong lie angle on clubs can have on the initial starting direction of the ball; this will be more noticeable on the wedges due to the increased loft.
During the month of April we will be offering a free wedge length, loft and lie check service, which would not take up too much of your time, but may be hugely beneficial to your game.
